Lviv Region Official Caught Polluting Land with Animal Waste

In the Zolochiv District of Lviv Region, law enforcement uncovered the deputy director of a private enterprise who repeatedly dumped animal remains near a forest in one of the district’s villages. His actions violated sanitary regulations, public health standards, and land protection laws.

Environmental Damage

The illegal dumping led to the contamination of agricultural land. Soil analysis revealed excessive levels of ammonium, phosphorus, nitrates, and chlorides, posing environmental risks. The damage caused to the community exceeded 30,000 UAH.

Investigation

The 53-year-old suspect, a resident of Ternopil Region, was exposed by investigators from the Department for Particularly Serious Crimes of the Lviv Police, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Criminal Case

The suspect has been charged under Article 239, Part 1, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – pollution or damage to land.

Penalties

  • A fine ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 times the non-taxable minimum income of citizens.
  • Disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to 3 years.
