Fraudsters Who Deceived the Bank Uncovered in Lviv Region

In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers uncovered a group of criminals who defrauded bank clients out of more than 800,000 hryvnias.

It was established that the perpetrators called the bank’s clients, posing as security service employees of the institution, and deceitfully persuaded them to transfer funds from their accounts to other supposedly ‘safe’ accounts, which were in fact controlled by them. Subsequently, the criminals appropriated the funds and distributed them among themselves.

In this manner, the perpetrators deceived 20 clients of the financial institution, seizing funds totaling over 800,000 hryvnias. The criminal group consisted of three individuals — a 31-year-old organizer and two accomplices aged 29 and 32, all residents of the Lviv region. They had clearly defined roles, adhered to conspiracy guidelines, frequently changed rented apartments and mobile phone numbers used for illegal activities.

During sanctioned searches, law enforcement discovered and seized: communication devices, rough notes, computer equipment, bank cards, and other evidence of their involvement in criminal activity. The criminals were uncovered by investigators from the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 in collaboration with operatives from the Cybercrime Counteraction Department in the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, and with the assistance of security service employees of JSC CB ‘PrivatBank.’

The perpetrators have been notified of suspicions: the organizer for committing a crime under part 3 article 27, part 5 article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the accomplices for a crime under part 5 article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of imprisonment from five to twelve years with confiscation of property. Pre-trial investigations are ongoing, and the court has chosen preventive measures for the suspects — detention with the possibility of bail.
