The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has uncovered a corruption scheme in the central executive authority.
Leaders at the central and regional levels organized extortion from subordinates in exchange for increased bonuses. In case of refusal, they threatened unjustified reduction of bonuses. Five district department heads were also involved in executing the scheme.
The head of the regional branch collected and accumulated the funds, keeping part for himself and sending the rest to his superior in Kyiv. For concealment, the money was disguised in coffee boxes labeled ‘Coffee from Lviv’.
