Deputies from the Staryi Sambir and Yavoriv City Councils in Lviv Region have been exposed in a corruption scheme involving public procurement. According to investigators, they received bribes exceeding 800,000 UAH.
Officers from the Strategic Investigations Department and Lviv Regional Police found that one deputy promoted the interests of specific commercial entities, while the other, as a department head, ensured their success in tenders. For their services, the officials took 5–10% of the contract amounts.
The investigation documented the transfer of 275,000 UAH and 546,000 UAH to the department head by his deputy colleague. During searches, authorities seized:
- over 1.6 million UAH;
- 14,500 USD;
- 2,500 EUR;
- a car;
- numerous bank cards.
Both suspects have been charged:
- The Yavoriv City Council deputy under Article 368, Part 4, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Receiving Illegal Benefits), which carries up to 12 years in prison;
- The Staryi Sambir City Council deputy under Article 369, Part 3, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Providing Illegal Benefits), which carries up to 8 years in prison.
The Yavoriv deputy has been remanded in custody, with bail set at 908,400 UAH. A decision on the second suspect’s pretrial measure is pending.
The investigation is overseen by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
