Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a batch of counterfeit currency worth almost UAH 2.2 million was seized and arrested. It was discovered during an authorised search in a car that entered Ukraine from the Republic of Poland.
According to the investigation, the counterfeit money was hidden in the interior of a car being transported on a truck trailer. In the course of operational measures, it was established that the Toyota car contained USD 100 and USD 50 banknotes with obvious signs of counterfeiting. The total amount of the found counterfeit money is USD 54,000.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, in particular, to identify the persons involved in the illegal activity. The car and the found funds were seized. A court application for their arrest has been filed.
The pre-trial investigation under Art. 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv region, with operational support provided by the Main Operational and Investigative Department of the 7th Border Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
