Law enforcement in Lviv Region has exposed a scheme facilitating illegal border crossings. The operation involved the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, local police, Ukraine’s Military Counterintelligence Department, and the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region.
Scheme Details
A 38-year-old resident of Lutsk was organizing illegal border crossings for residents of Lviv and Volyn regions. Using the “Shlyakh” system, he registered his clients as drivers of private entrepreneurs licensed for international transportation.
The cost of his services was approximately €15,000 per person. The package included:
- provision of a vehicle for border crossing,
- registration in the “Shlyakh” system,
- preparation of all necessary documents.
Arrest and Investigation
The suspect was apprehended in Lviv Region while receiving payment of €15,000 and $2,000. He has been charged under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Illegal Transportation of Persons Across the State Border of Ukraine”).
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
