Two pedestrians injured in Lviv region in one day

In the Lviv region, two pedestrians were injured in two road traffic accidents over the past 24 hours – a woman in Truskavets and a boy in the Yavoriv district. This was reported by the Lviv Region Police.

At around 14:50 on 27 May, on Stebnytska Street in Truskavets, the driver of a Chevrolet Bolt, a 50-year-old local resident, ran into a 45-year-old woman from Truskavets. The woman sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital.

At about 15:00 the same day in the village of Starychi, Yavoriv district, according to preliminary police findings, the driver of a Volkswagen Golf, a 31-year-old resident of Kryvyi Rih, hit an 11-year-old pedestrian from the Yavoriv district. The boy with injuries was taken to a medical facility.

In both cases, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road traffic safety rules. The article provides for a penalty of up to three years of restriction of liberty with disqualification from driving vehicles for up to three years.

Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incidents and urge pedestrians to strictly comply with the Highway Code, to cross the road only at pedestrian crossings and on a green traffic light signal, and to use reflective elements in the hours of darkness. Drivers are reminded of the need to observe speed limits and to be vigilant near junctions and pedestrian crossings.
