In Lviv region, 11 wildfires extinguished in 24 hours

Within the territory of Lviv region, over the course of a day, rescuers extinguished 11 fires in natural ecosystems covering a total area of more than 0.4 hectares. This was reported by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.

According to emergency workers, there were 10 outbreaks of dry grass and 1 peat fire. While tackling one of these fires, rescuers discovered a wild duck’s nest destroyed by the flames.

The State Emergency Service emphasises that burning dry vegetation is dangerous and at the same time constitutes a breach of the law. Such actions carry administrative liability: fines for private individuals range from 3060 to 6120 hryvnias, and for officials — from 15300 to 21420 hryvnias.

Rescuers warn that uncontrolled burning of dry vegetation can quickly spread to residential buildings, outbuildings, forests and other areas, creating a threat to the life and health of people and animals.

Emergency workers urge people not to burn dry grass, not to discard cigarette ends and to act responsibly. In the event of a fire, you must immediately call the Rescue Service on 101.
