In Lviv region, a man suspected of organising an illegal border crossing has been detained

In Lviv region, law enforcement officers have detained a 32-year-old resident of Khmelnytskyi region, who is suspected of organising the illegal transfer of a man liable for military service across the state border of Ukraine to the Republic of Romania.

According to the investigation, during the period of martial law the suspect agreed to arrange an illegal border crossing for a citizen liable for military service. He devised a detailed plan, a walking route outside official checkpoints in Ivano-Frankivsk region through mountainous forested terrain, and provided instructions on what to do during the crossing. The suspect also intended to enter Romania together with this man.

On 19 June, law enforcement officers detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while he was walking towards a border district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, which borders Romania, where he planned to illegally cross the state border together with another man liable for military service.

The detention was carried out by officers of the Migration Police Department in Lviv region together with investigators of Police Station No. 3 of the Stryi District Police Department and officers of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, under the procedural supervision of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine). The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to seven years, with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
