
In the Lviv region, police arrested a man suspected of illegally taking possession of a car.
The suspect seized the vehicle, threatening the driver and passenger with physical harm, and then fled the scene in the stolen car. For his actions, he faces imprisonment for up to eight years.
On October 31, around 6:30 PM, the police received a report from a 29-year-old resident of Zolochiv district about the theft of his VAZ 2109 car. According to the complainant, his acquaintance stopped the vehicle and then began threatening him and his passenger, a 27-year-old resident of the district, with physical violence. The driver and the woman managed to escape, and the perpetrator took the car and left the scene. The victims then reported the incident to the police.
Operatives of the criminal police, investigators, patrol response teams, and district police officers from Police Station No. 2 of Zolochiv District Police Department, as well as officers from the Zolochiv District Police Department, were involved in solving the crime. Through their efforts, law enforcement officers found the stolen car abandoned on the road. Shortly thereafter, police established the location of the suspect and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The perpetrator, a 41-year-old resident of Zolochiv district who is a serviceman and has SZZ status, was in a state of intoxication. Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Western Region, informed him of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction includes a punishment of imprisonment from five to eight years, with or without confiscation of property. The recovered vehicle was confiscated by law enforcement officers to a special site. The pre-trial investigation continues, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
