
In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers detained a customs inspector involved in receiving a bribe.
It was established that the state inspector of the customs value control department of the Lviv Customs demanded and received an improper benefit of $1600 from a representative-importer for not creating artificial obstacles during the customs clearance of several vehicles and not increasing the amount of customs fees for them.
The offender was exposed by investigators from the Special Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Regional Police, together with operatives from the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
On July 14, law enforcement officers detained the customs officer at his workplace in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after receiving the improper benefit.
There is a pending decision regarding notifying the detainee of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt of improper benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years, with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
Pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will determine a preventive measure for the offender.
