
In the Lviv region, police have detained an attacker who injured a truck driver with a knife.
The victim was taken to the hospital, and there is no threat to his life. The detainee, a 32-year-old resident of Pustomyty who committed the crime with hooligan motives, faces up to seven years in prison. Operatives of the criminal police, together with investigators of police department No. 3 of Lviv district police department No. 2, established that the incident occurred on December 5th around 17:30 on Hlynskaya Street in the city of Pustomyty.
The driver of a MAN truck, a 29-year-old resident of Zolochiv district, got out of the vehicle to reprimand an intoxicated man who was walking in the roadway and intentionally blocking his way. In response to the driver’s remark, the pedestrian drew a knife and inflicted several stabs, causing bodily injuries. Subsequently, medics diagnosed the injured man with, among other things, slash wounds to the shoulder and shin.
As a result of the measures taken, law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the perpetrator and detained him under Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine – he was identified as a 32-year-old local resident. Under the procedural guidance of the Pustomyty district prosecutor’s office, the detainee was notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 296 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment for a term of three to seven years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
