In Lviv Region, an Intoxicated Driver Detained After Accident

In the Lviv region, police detained an intoxicated female driver who caused an accident. An investigation is underway.

The traffic incident occurred on July 21 at around 18:00 on Oleksandr Myshuga Street in the city of Radekhiv, Sheptytskyi district. As preliminarily established by law enforcement, a 51-year-old local resident lost control of a Chevrolet Aveo. The vehicle left the roadway and ended up in a ditch.

As a result of the accident, a passenger in the Chevrolet, also a 60-year-old resident of Radekhiv, sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. Additionally, it was established that the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. She has been detained in accordance with article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and shortly the court will choose a preventive measure for her.

Based on the fact, investigators from police department No.1 of the Sheptytskyi district department have opened a criminal case under part 1 of article 286-1 “Violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving under the influence” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a penalty of imprisonment for up to three years with the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of three to five years. A pre-trial investigation is being conducted, and law enforcement is establishing the circumstances of the incident.
