
In Lviv region, law enforcement officers have detained a man suspected of inflicting fatal injuries on a fellow villager in one of the villages of Yavoriv district. A pre-trial investigation is under way in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred on 14 June. At around 11:20, a resident of a village in Yavoriv district contacted the police and reported that she had found her brother badly beaten in the yard of his household.
Operatives from the criminal police, investigators and other units of Police Station No.1 of the Yavoriv District Police Department were involved in establishing the circumstances. According to the initial findings, at around 10:00 that same day, a 34-year-old village resident with a previous conviction came to see his 50-year-old fellow villager. A sudden conflict broke out between the men, during which the suspect struck the victim several times with his hands and feet on various parts of the body.
The serious bodily injuries sustained led to the death of the 50-year-old man. The perpetrator was then detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, investigators informed the detainee that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily harm). The sanction of this article provides for a sentence of seven to ten years’ imprisonment. The court has chosen to remand the suspect in custody as a preventive measure, without the right to bail.
