
In the Lviv region, police detained a drunk driver of a Seat who caused a fatal accident and fled the scene.
As a result of the car collision, a pedestrian died from the injuries sustained. The driver who fled the scene faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to ten years.
The road accident occurred on October 5 around 20:45 on Horodotska Street in Lviv. As law enforcement officers preliminarily established, an unknown driver, operating an unidentified vehicle, hit a pedestrian, a 76-year-old Lviv resident, and fled the scene. As a result of the collision, the man sustained injuries from which he died at the site of the accident.
To locate the fleeing driver, operatives of the criminal police and officers from other departments of Police Department No. 3 of Lviv District Police Administration No. 2, criminal investigation operatives, and officers of other Lviv region police services, as well as Patrol Police crews of the Lviv region were involved.
Through conducted measures, law enforcement officers identified the perpetrator of the accident – a 33-year-old resident of one of the villages in the Lviv district who was driving a Seat Leon and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It was also established that at the time of the collision, the man was driving under the influence.
Investigators from the Transport Crime Investigation Department of the Investigation Department of Lviv Police, under the procedural leadership of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a crime provided by Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles under the influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of five to ten years.
Pre-trial investigation continues. The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was seized by law enforcement and placed in a special impound lot.
