Woman Arrested in Lviv Region for Smartphone Theft

In the Lviv region, police have arrested a woman on suspicion of stealing a smartphone from a store.

“We remind you – under martial law conditions, committing theft, robbery, extortion, as well as misappropriation, embezzlement of property, or acquisition through abuse of official position, carry maximum penalties.”

As established by law enforcement, on January 19, while in one of the stores in the town of Kamianka-Buzka, the culprit seized a mobile phone and left the scene. Shortly thereafter, the saleswoman discovered the shortage of goods and sought police assistance.

Operatives of the criminal police, investigators, and officers from other services of police station No.1 of Lviv District Police Department No.1 were involved in solving the crime. Through their measures, law enforcement identified the whereabouts of the perpetrator, a 43-year-old resident of the Lviv district, and detained her as per Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators from the territorial police subdivision, under the procedural guidance of the Zhovkva District Prosecutor’s Office, have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years. A pre-trial investigation is underway, and the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion in committing the crime and selecting a preventive measure is being resolved.
