In the Lviv region, a suspect in a theft inflicted bodily harm on a police officer during his detention.
The 30-year-old resident of the Zaporizhzhia region, who has previously been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility and is suspected of committing a theft from a house in Brody, faces punishment – up to eight years of imprisonment.
On June 18, around 11:30, a resident of the city of Brody reported via the emergency line 102 that upon returning home, he found a thief in his house. Upon seeing the homeowner, the unwelcome guest fled, taking gold jewelry with him.
The description of the perpetrator was received by the officers of all services of the Police Department No. 1 of Zolochiv District Police Department, and soon operatives of the criminal police identified a man matching the description on Yurydyka Street in Brody. The passerby refused to provide documents for verification, did not comply with the legal demands of the police, threatened them with a knife, and during the detention inflicted bodily harm on one of the law enforcement officers.
The identity of the perpetrator was established – he was a 30-year-old resident of the Zaporizhzhia region, who had previously been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility, including for thefts. He was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and law enforcement officers seized a gold ring stolen from the applicant’s house and other physical evidence.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Brody District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the detainee of suspicion of committing criminal offenses under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 2 of Article 345 (Intentional infliction of light or medium bodily harm to a law enforcement officer in connection with the performance of this officer’s official duties) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the sanctions of the articles is up to eight years of imprisonment.
Pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon decide on pre-trial restrictions for the suspect.
