On 18 July, in the second half of the day, thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail are expected across Lviv region. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology of Ukraine.
According to the weather forecasters, in some areas heavy rain of 15–49 mm is possible, and in the mountains 15–29 mm in 12 hours or less. Hail with a diameter of 6–19 mm and wind squalls with speeds of 17–22 m/s are expected.
The Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region urges residents to be attentive and cautious during the deterioration of weather conditions and to follow safety rules.
During a thunderstorm, it is recommended at home to close windows and doors, avoid draughts and, if possible, keep away from electrical appliances. If bad weather catches you outside, you are advised not to walk close to building cornices, to stay clear of spreading trees, advertising hoardings and power lines, and also to avoid metal fences, street lamps, metal towers and electricity pylons.
Rescuers stress that you must not shelter from heavy rain under trees because of the risk of lightning strikes and falling branches. If a thunderstorm catches you in a car, you should remain inside, close the windows and lower the car aerial, and avoid parking under trees or tall structures.
