On 20 September at around 20:30 on the Kovel – Zhovkva highway near the town of Velyki Mosty in the Sheptytskyi district, a fatal road traffic collision involving a lorry and an electric scooter occurred. This was reported by the Lviv region police.
According to preliminary information, the collision involved a MAN lorry driven by a 56-year-old Lviv resident and an electric scooter ridden by a 56-year-old local resident.
As a result of the impact, the electric scooter rider sustained bodily injuries from which he died at the scene.
Investigators from the Department for the Investigation of Transport-Related Offences of the Investigative Directorate of the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road traffic safety regulations by persons driving vehicles.
The sanction under this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years or without such deprivation. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the crash.
