Another contractor has been charged with misappropriating budget funds during repairs at a sanatorium in the Lviv region. The Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office has sent an indictment to court against the former director of the contracting company.
According to the investigation, in September 2022 the acting director of a sanatorium-resort treatment centre concluded several contracts with a contracting company for the repair of premises in the buildings where internally displaced persons were to be housed. As the management of the firm changed, three agreements were signed by different individuals, but, according to the investigators, the scheme was the same: the certificates and reports inflated the scope and cost of the works.
The acting director of the sanatorium and one of the contractors were the first to be notified of suspicion back in July last year. They are charged with misappropriating almost UAH 1.3 million of budget funds and with official forgery of documents under Part 5 of Article 191, Part 2 of Article 28, and Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Proceedings against these individuals are already being heard in court.
In March this year, two more heads of the same contracting company – the former and the current directors – were served with suspicion notices. According to the investigation, through their actions they caused losses of almost UAH 1.2 million and about UAH 1.7 million respectively. After that, the men went into hiding from law enforcement: the former head of the company was tracked down and detained, while the current director of the firm remains wanted.
The accused former head of the contracting firm is charged with misappropriating almost UAH 1.2 million of budget funds and with official forgery of documents (Part 5 of Article 191, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation in the case was carried out by the Yavoriv District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
