In the forested areas of Lviv region, two munitions dating back to the Second World War were discovered while people were out picking mushrooms. The dangerous finds were reported to the rescue service, which organised the subsequent response.
In the village of Huta of Sheptytskyi district, mushroom pickers in the forest came across an object outwardly resembling an 88 mm round from an anti-tank grenade launcher dating from the Second World War. Another incident occurred in the forest near the village of Svirzh in Lviv district, where an object was found that outwardly resembled a 76 mm artillery shell from the same period.
At each location, a community rescue officer attended, identified the discovered items and ensured that the necessary safety measures were put in place. On 6 October, all the dangerous finds were removed and destroyed in the prescribed manner by the pyrotechnic unit of the MRC ShR “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Rescuers emphasise that even after many decades, old munitions and other explosive remnants of war remain deadly. If a suspicious object is discovered, do not touch or move it, do not attempt to dismantle or neutralise it, move away to a safe distance, warn others and immediately report the find by calling 101.
