A fatal road accident occurred on 3 November at around 23:10 on the Drohobych–Sambir–Smilnytsia highway between the villages of Bereziv and Polyana in the Sambir district.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement officers, a 26-year-old driver of a BMW 750, a local resident, ran into a 72-year-old pedestrian, a resident of the Sambir district.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the man died at the scene.
Investigators from the Department for the Investigation of Transport-Related Crimes of the Investigation Directorate of the Lviv Region Police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road traffic safety rules). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with a possible disqualification from driving vehicles for up to three years or without such disqualification.
Officers of the Sambir District Police Department are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
