In Lviv region, air raid signals are being updated in line with new threat levels

The Government has introduced new rules for issuing the “Air raid” signal, and in the Lviv region a technical upgrade of the warning system has begun in accordance with these requirements.

On 4 September 2026, Resolution No. 1092 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “Certain issues of optimising the protection of the population and response to threats from air attack assets” entered into force. The document provides for the differentiation of the “Air raid” signal in the nationwide automated centralised warning system according to threat levels determined on the basis of information from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The following danger levels have been established: the red level indicates a missile, missile-and-drone or massive drone threat, while the yellow level signals a drone threat. Thus, the procedure for warning and informing the population in the event of a threat or occurrence of a military emergency has been changed.

Specialists are currently working on updating the algorithms for activating end warning devices, as well as on enshrining the new “Air raid” and “All clear” signals in regulatory acts. The warning system of Lviv region includes more than 1,200 sets of signalling and loudspeaker equipment, so its complete reconfiguration will take time.

During the work, temporary malfunctions or incorrect activation of sirens are possible. Residents are urged, in the event of audible signals, to additionally check information from official sources, in particular on the Telegram channel of the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, on the “Оповіщення ЦЗ” channel and in the “Повітряна тривога” app.
