In districts of Lviv Region, from 9 to 13 November, a technical test of the rapid public information system via mobile phones using Cell Broadcast technology is being carried out. Residents of the region will receive test alerts asking them to remain calm, as reported by the Civil Protection Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
It is noted that in the Yavoriv district the test will take place on 13 November. During the test, a message will appear on mobile phone screens along the lines of: “Attention! A technical test of the rapid public information system of [Name] district of Lviv Region is underway. Please remain calm”.
Cell Broadcast is a technology that makes it possible to instantly send alerts to mobile phones within a defined area. Messages are delivered in fractions of a second without overloading the mobile network, appear over all apps or the lock screen, are accompanied by a loud, distinctive signal that can be heard even in “Silent” mode, and are received only by subscribers who are in the selected district or locality.
No subscribers’ phone numbers are required to send such alerts – they are received by all devices that are within range of the relevant communications tower. In future, the system is planned to be used to rapidly inform the public about real threats and dangers.
Residents of Lviv Region are asked to remain calm when receiving test messages and, if possible, to inform their relatives and close friends about the test.
