In Lviv region two Second World War shells found during excavation works

In the village of Batyatychi in Lviv district and the town of Zhydachiv in Stryi district, artillery shells from the Second World War were discovered during excavation works. This was reported by the Rescue Service “101”.

On 8 October, rescuers received a report about an explosive device in Batyatychi. During excavation works a 76 mm artillery shell from the Second World War was found there.

The next day, 9 October, a similar report came from Zhydachiv in Stryi district. During excavation works in the town, a 76 mm artillery shell from the Second World War was also discovered.

At each location a community rescue officer was on site, who identified the items found and organised the necessary safety measures until the arrival of the bomb disposal experts. Specialists of the Interregional Rapid Response Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine removed the shells and destroyed them in accordance with the established procedure.

Rescuers urge the public to be cautious: if you discover a suspicious object, do not touch it, move it or dismantle it, but move to a safe distance and immediately call 101 or 102.
