In Lviv region, bomb disposal experts destroy 18 Second World War shells

In Lviv region, the explosive ordnance disposal unit of the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on 24 July removed and destroyed 18 artillery shells dating back to the Second World War.

The dangerous munitions were discovered by a mushroom picker while gathering mushrooms in a forest near the village of Bob’yatyn in Sheptytskyi district. The man informed the rescue service about the discovery, after which the shells were rendered safe.

Rescuers stress that even after decades such explosive remnants of war remain highly dangerous. Due to corrosion and exposure to environmental factors, they become unstable and may detonate from impact, vibration or careless handling.

If any suspicious objects are found, it is strictly forbidden to touch or move them. You must immediately call 101 or 112 so that State Emergency Service specialists can dispose of them safely.
