
In Lviv region, law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning of a young child while at a swimming pool on the grounds of a leisure complex in the Stryi district.
Today, 10 August, the police received a report from medical staff about the hospitalisation of a boy who is in a serious condition in one of Lviv's hospitals. According to the medics, the child was brought to the medical facility on 1 August.
Preliminary findings indicate that on that day the boy was at a swimming pool on the premises of one of the leisure complexes in the Stryi district. After the child was found in the water, resuscitation measures were carried out at the scene, after which he was taken to a Lviv hospital.
Investigators of Police Division No.3 of the Stryi District Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Stryi District Prosecutor's Office, have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (improper performance of duties regarding the protection of children's life and health).
The article provides for a penalty of restriction of liberty for a term of three to five years, or imprisonment for the same term, with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years, or without such disqualification. A pre-trial investigation is under way, the necessary examinations are being commissioned, and law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
