In the Lviv region, sappers from the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine removed and, in accordance with established procedure, destroyed three munitions dating back to the Second World War.
According to the rescuers, on 11 August the following dangerous items were disposed of: a 152 mm artillery shell found in a field near the village of Honcharivka in Zolochiv district; a 52 mm mortar bomb discovered in a forest near the village of Yakymiv in Lviv district; and a 76 mm artillery shell found during a clean-up of the area near a building in the village of Davydiv in Lviv district.
The State Emergency Service stresses that wartime munitions remain dangerous even after many decades. Due to corrosion, damage and the influence of external factors, such items can become unstable and may explode as a result of impact, vibration or careless handling.
Rescuers urge that if a suspicious object is found, it should not be touched, moved or tampered with, and that people should move to a safe distance and immediately report the discovery by calling 101 or 112. Only specialists should carry out the safe removal and neutralisation of explosive objects.
