In Lviv region, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 41-year-old local resident accused of organising the illegal import of cars into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the man bought vehicles abroad and arranged for their delivery to Ukraine. To cross the border, he hired drivers, and in the customs declarations he stated that the cars were allegedly intended for the Armed Forces and were being imported as humanitarian aid.
In reality, as law enforcement officers established, the accused planned to sell these vehicles for cash. Attempts to sell five SUVs of the Toyota and Mitsubishi brands at prices ranging from 5 to 8 thousand euros each have been documented.
All the vehicles were seized and placed under arrest. Their total value was estimated at almost 1.4 million hryvnias. Law enforcement agencies are insisting on the confiscation of these cars with their subsequent transfer to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The indictment has been sent to court. The man is charged with committing a criminal offence under Part 1 of Article 201-4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, “Smuggling of excisable goods”.
