In various districts of Lviv region, explosive remnants of the Second World War have again been discovered. The munitions were found while people were picking mushrooms in the forests and during earthworks on a private plot.
In the village of Slovita in Lviv district, people came across a 50 mm mortar bomb in the forest while gathering mushrooms. In the forest near the village of Bovdury in Zolochiv district, mushroom pickers found a Zeitzündergewehrhandgranate hand grenade dating back to the Second World War.
Another item was found in a forest near the village of Zavereshytsia in Lviv district. There, during mushroom picking, a 76 mm artillery shell from wartime was discovered. And in the village of Sokilnyky in Lviv district, an FAB-50 aerial bomb was found during earthworks on a private plot of land.
At all the locations where the dangerous items were discovered, a community rescue officer was on site, who identified the munitions and organised the necessary safety measures. Pyrotechnic experts from the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine removed and, in accordance with regulations, destroyed all the explosive devices found.
Rescuers stress that even decades later, munitions can pose a deadly threat. If a suspicious object is found, it must not be touched or moved, nor should anyone attempt to dismantle or neutralise it; instead, you should move away to a safe distance, warn others and immediately call 101.
