In Lviv region, more than UAH 900,000 in damages caused to the environment by the illegal felling of 621 trees in the Mysha Hora tract near the village of Velykopole has been reimbursed to the budget. This was reported by the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office.
During an inspection of the area, staff of the State Environmental Inspectorate in Lviv region discovered the illegal felling of pine, aspen and alder trees. The inspection established that the damage caused to the environment amounted to more than UAH 900,000.
It was established that the land plot where the felling took place is the communal property of the Ivano-Frankivsk Settlement Council and belongs to the reserve agricultural land. The persons responsible for the damage caused to the forest have not been identified.
Since the settlement council is obliged to ensure proper control over the use and protection of land and forests within its territory, liability for compensation of the damages was placed on the local self-government body. On these grounds, prosecutors filed a claim with the court seeking recovery of the damages from the Ivano-Frankivsk Settlement Council.
The Prosecutor’s Office notes that the court decision has already been enforced and the damages caused to the state have been reimbursed in full.
