In the village of Dovhe in the Stryi district on 20 July, the driver of a Land Rover Range Rover SUV ran over a police officer while fleeing from law enforcement. The injured officer, who sustained multiple injuries, was taken to the polytrauma unit, where doctors describe his condition as stable but serious. The Lviv regional police reported this.
At around 11:30, a response crew from the patrol police unit of the Stryi District Police Department stopped a car whose driver, a 41-year-old resident of Lviv district, had violated the Highway Code. During the document check it emerged that the man was required to report to the territorial recruitment and social support centre.
According to preliminary information, the driver left the stop location, damaging the officers’ service vehicle. Later he ignored an order from another patrol to stop, ran over a 31-year-old senior police lieutenant – an inspector from another crew of the patrol police response unit of the Stryi District Police Department, who had blocked the carriageway of the bridge over the Stryi river in the direction of the district centre – and damaged another service vehicle.
As a result of the incident, the police officer sustained multiple fractures, abdominal and chest injuries, and a closed head injury. He was taken unconscious to hospital, where doctors describe the law enforcement officer’s condition as stable but serious.
After the collision, the driver fled and abandoned the damaged vehicle in Stryi. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation and Criminal Analysis Departments of the Lviv regional police, officers from the criminal police, investigators, patrol police response crews and staff from other units of the Stryi District Police Department were brought in to search for him.
