In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers have exposed a 51-year-old resident of Dnipropetrovsk region, who is suspected of illegal trading in weapons and ammunition. This was reported by the Stryi District Police Department.
According to the investigation, the man was looking for “clients” on specialised websites and in Internet messengers, arranging delivery of weapons and ammunition by post, and receiving payment to a bank card.
Detectives from the criminal investigation department of the Lviv region police, together with officers of the criminal police, investigators and other units of Police Station No. 2 of the Stryi District Police Department, documented several episodes of unlawful activity. In April and May, the suspect sold a buyer two units of firearms: a 5.6 mm calibre revolver for 9,800 hryvnias and a TOZ-8 rifle for 58,000 hryvnias, as well as 500 rounds of 5.6 mm calibre ammunition for rifled firearms for 5,000 hryvnias.
During a court-authorised search at the suspect’s place of residence, police officers discovered and seized a rifle and 1,850 rounds of 5.6 mm calibre ammunition. The arrest was carried out with the tactical support of special forces officers of the Dnipropetrovsk region police.
The man was detained under Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, investigators notified him of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives). The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.
All weapons and ammunition involved in the criminal proceedings have been seized and sent for expert examination to establish their origin. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
