Over the course of 12 August in the Lviv region, three cyclists were injured in three separate road traffic collisions. In all cases, the police have opened criminal proceedings and law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incidents.
At around 10:40 in the urban-type settlement of Skhidnytsia in the Drohobych district, a Van Hool 815 bus driven by a Lviv resident collided with a bicycle ridden by a 28-year-old resident of the Lviv district. The cyclist sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital.
At approximately 15:30 near the village of Kholodnovidka in the Lviv district, a Volvo FH 460 lorry driven by a 57-year-old man collided with an electric bicycle ridden by a 73-year-old Lviv resident. The rider of the electric bicycle was injured and taken to hospital.
Another collision occurred at around 17:00 on Promyslova Street in Sheptytskyi. According to preliminary findings, a Skoda Octavia car driven by a 35-year-old woman from the Sheptytskyi district and a bicycle ridden by a 66-year-old local resident collided. The cyclist, who suffered bodily injuries, was taken to hospital.
In all three cases, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road traffic safety regulations). The article provides for a penalty of up to three years’ restriction of liberty, with disqualification from driving vehicles for up to three years.
The police urge drivers to strictly observe the Highway Code, be attentive, not exceed the speed limit, manoeuvre with care and keep the road situation under constant control.
