
In the Lviv region on 6 October there were three road traffic accidents involving motorcyclists in Sambir, Radekhiv and near the village of Hamaliivka. In all cases, the injured motorcyclists and the passenger were taken to hospital. Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incidents.
At around 15:30 on Shevchenka Street in Sambir, a Renault Laguna driven by a 42-year-old local resident collided with a Kawasaki ER-5 motorcycle ridden by a 15-year-old resident of Sambir. The underage motorcyclist sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital.
On this fact, investigators of the department for the investigation of criminal proceedings involving children of the Lviv region police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment of from three to eight years’ imprisonment with possible disqualification from driving vehicles for up to three years or without such disqualification.
Another accident occurred at about 17:00 on Tarnavskoho Street in the town of Radekhiv, Sheptytskyi district. There, a Ford Focus driven by a 33-year-old local resident collided with a Loncin motorcycle ridden by a 27-year-old resident of Radekhiv. As a result of the accident, an 18-year-old motorcycle passenger sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital.
At approximately 17:20 near the village of Hamaliivka in Lviv district, according to preliminary police reports, a Yamaha MT 07 motorcycle ridden by a 54-year-old resident of Volyn region collided with an Audi A4 driven by a 30-year-old resident of Lviv district. The motorcyclist was injured and was taken to a medical facility.
In respect of the latter two incidents, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to three years’ restriction of liberty with disqualification from driving vehicles for up to three years. The Lviv region police urge drivers to strictly observe the Highway Code, not to exceed the speed limit and to pay close attention to the road situation.
