Over the 24-hour period from 6 to 7 August, units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region were called out 36 times to tackle fires. Of these, 22 outbreaks occurred in natural ecosystems, with the flames covering almost 30,000 sq m of land.
The rescue service stresses that such fires lead to the destruction of vegetation, animal habitats and air pollution with combustion products, and can cause the spread of flames to forests, farm buildings and residential houses.
Rescuers are urging residents of the region not to burn dry vegetation, rubbish or post-harvest residues and to strictly observe fire safety rules, as this is everyone's responsibility.
