In the Drohobych district, on the Mostyska – Sambir – Boryslav highway, a fatal road traffic collision occurred in which a 24-year-old local woman died. Police in Lviv region identified and detained the driver involved in the collision.
According to preliminary findings by law enforcement officers, the collision took place on 25 October at around 18:10. An unidentified driver, operating an unidentified vehicle, ran into a 24-year-old woman who was walking along the roadside with an acquaintance, after which he fled the scene. The victim died at the scene from her injuries.
To solve the crime, officers from the criminal police, investigators and staff from other units of Police Station No.1 of the Drohobych District Police Department, as well as detectives from the criminal investigation department and other units of Lviv region police, were involved. As a result of the measures carried out, it was established that the collision was caused by a 49-year-old resident of Drohobych, the driver of a Nissan X-Trail.
Law enforcement officers also established that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol – his blood alcohol level was more than 2.5‰. The driver was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the Nissan X-Trail used in the collision was seized and taken to a special impound lot.
Investigators from the department for investigating transport-related offences of the investigative directorate of Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving while intoxicated). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years, with disqualification from driving for the same period. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the detainee is expected to be formally notified of suspicion in the near future.
