
On the “Borshchovychi – Novyi Yarychiv” road in Lviv district, a fatal road traffic collision occurred involving a VAZ-2101 car and a cyclist.
The crash happened on 14 August at around 6:40. According to preliminary police reports, a 47-year-old VAZ-2101 driver, a resident of one of the villages in the district, hit a 59-year-old cyclist from a neighbouring village.
As a result of the impact, the man sustained bodily injuries and died at the scene.
Investigators from the department for investigating transport-related crimes of the investigative directorate of the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles) and Part 1 of Article 135 (leaving in danger) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The sanctions under these articles provide for a penalty of imprisonment for up to eight years, with disqualification from driving for up to three years. A pre-trial investigation is under way, and law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
