Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office exposed yet another bribery scheme at the customs office. The official was arrested red-handed while receiving an illegal benefit.
He was informed of the suspicion of committing a crime, provided for in Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the inspector of the customs post of the Lviv Customs systematically demanded and received a bribe. The amount of unlawful benefit was 200 Euros from one vehicle.
In case of refusal to pay the money, people were expected to face artificial obstacles during customs clearance and their personal belongings. Also, car owners would have problems with transporting parcels from European countries.
Law enforcement officers detained a customs officer in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, when receiving the next “payment”.
Currently, the issue of selecting a preventive measure for him and removing him from his position is being resolved.
Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Office No. 1 of the Main Office of the National Police in the Lviv Region, operational support is provided by the SBU Office in the Lviv Region.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
