The perpetrator, a 63-year-old resident of Tyachiv district of Transcarpathian region, was exposed by investigators of police department No. 2 of Lviv district police department No. 1 together with operatives of the 7th border Carpathian detachment, under the procedural guidance of the Zhovkiv regional prosecutor’s office.
As the law enforcement officers established, in June the suspect undertook to organize the transfer of a conscripted citizen of Ukraine across the state border of Ukraine to the territory of the Republic of Poland. For the specified amount, he prepared for the “customer” – a man of conscription age, a set of forged documents that enable him to cross the state border of Ukraine without hindrance.
The attacker valued his services at $2,000.
Investigators of the territorial unit of the police informed a resident of Zakarpattia about the suspicion of committing a crime, provided for in part 3 of article 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years with confiscation of property.
Also, during the authorized searches, the law enforcement officers found the documents of 18 people – citizens of Ukraine, whom he probably also intended to smuggle abroad.
The pre-trial investigation continues, the issue of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect – detention, as well as the seizure of his property – is being resolved.
