A DAF lorry driven by a 31-year-old resident of Lviv region arrived at the Krakivets-Korchowa border crossing point to leave Ukraine. In the customs declaration, the driver stated that he was transporting fuel pellets abroad under the export regime.
During an in-depth inspection of the vehicle, customs officers together with border guards discovered concealed tobacco products. “KOMPLIMENT” brand cigarettes were found in the driver’s cab, in the instrument panel, in the mirror housings, as well as in the light beacons on the roof of the lorry.
After partially unloading the cargo, additional hiding places with tobacco products were found in a structural cavity in the floor of the semi-trailer. In total, 770 packs of cigarettes were concealed in the vehicle.
In connection with this, customs officers drew up a report under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The cigarettes and the semi-trailer were temporarily seized pending a court decision. A report on the incident, which has the hallmarks of a criminal offence under Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has been sent to the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Lviv region.
