
A 32-year-old resident of the town of Rudky, suspected of brutally beating an acquaintance with a baseball bat in one of the villages of the Sambir district, has been remanded in custody for 60 days without the right to bail.
According to law enforcement officers, the incident took place on 27 May at around 21:40 in one of the villages of the Sambir district. During a confrontation, the man beat his 62-year-old acquaintance, a local resident, with a baseball bat, inflicting serious injuries, including to the head. The attacker recorded the beating on his mobile phone camera.
On 28 May, officers of the Sambir district police department discovered the video of the incident while monitoring social networks, after which they identified those involved and established the circumstances of the attack.
Investigators of the Sambir district police department, under the procedural guidance of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the suspect that he is under investigation for an offence under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional grievous bodily harm. The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
The 62-year-old victim, who has multiple fractures, including of the ribs and skull, is currently in hospital. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
