The suspect faces up to five years in prison.
On June 26, at about 9 a.m., a resident of a village in the Sambir District Police Department reported the disappearance of his 35-year-old brother to the Samir District Police Department. According to the applicant, around midnight the day before, his brother had gone to a forest plantation near the village and had not yet returned.
Officers of the territorial police department and volunteers were involved in the search for the missing man. During the search, it was established that the man probably received a fatal gunshot wound.
The operative-search measures carried out by law enforcement officers established that a 57-year-old resident of Sambor, who was hunting in a forest plantation that night, could be involved in the murder. During the interrogation, the man said that on June 26, at about 1.20 am, he thought he was shooting at an animal and hit a man who was walking in the woods.
Subsequently, law enforcement officers found the body of the deceased, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators of the territorial police unit under the procedural guidance of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office informed the hunter about the suspicion of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 119 (Murder through negligence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – restriction of liberty for a term of three to five years or imprisonment for the same term.
Militiamen detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the court will soon choose a measure of restraint for him. The hunting rifle from which the fatal shot was fired was confiscated by police and sent for expert examination.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
