In one of the villages of Sambir district, a 55-year-old local resident is accused of attempted premeditated murder. Prosecutors of the Sambir District Prosecutor's Office have referred the indictment to court.
According to the investigation, the incident took place in April 2026, on Provydna Sunday. The man, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, became enraged because fellow villagers had gathered for a feast without him.
Investigators established that the accused took an illegally acquired double-barrelled hunting shotgun and, from his own yard, fired a targeted shot at a 46-year-old fellow villager who was visiting at a neighbouring property.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen with damage to internal organs and massive internal bleeding. The homeowner immediately called medics and law enforcement officers, thanks to which the victim's life was saved.
At present, the accused is being held in custody. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by officers of Police Department No. 1 of the Sambir District Police Division of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
A person is presumed innocent of committing a criminal offence until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
