The accident occurred on February 1, at about 17.00, on the Lviv-Uzhhorod highway near the village of Luky, Sambir district.
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a minibus Opel Vivaro, a 63-year-old resident of Sambir, lost control, drove into oncoming traffic and collided with a Mitsubishi L 200 driven by a 24-year-old resident of Khmelnytsky region.
The driver of the Opel Vivaro died in the intensive care unit from the injuries sustained in the accident, despite the efforts of paramedics. Three passengers of the minibus: a 60-year-old woman and two 64-year-old men, all from Sambir, as well as the driver and four passengers of the Mitsubishi L 200, men aged 22, 24, 31 and 40, all from Khmelnytsky region, were injured and taken to a medical facility.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of Lviv Region Police opened a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the Road Safety Rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
