Fatal road accident occurred on 21 June at around 13:20 on the Nyzhankovychi–Sambir–Drohobych–Stryi highway in the village of Horodovychi, Sambir district.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement officers, a Opel Vivaro minibus, driven by a 34-year-old resident of Sambir district, collided with an electric moped ridden by a 74-year-old woman from the same district.
As a result of the accident, the electric moped rider sustained bodily injuries and was taken to the intensive care unit where, despite the medical assistance provided, she died.
Investigators from the Transport Crime Investigation Division of the Lviv Region Police, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with a possible driving ban for up to three years or without such a ban.
Officers of the Sambir District Police Department are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
