In Sambir district, a man suspected of fatally beating an acquaintance has been detained

In one of the villages of the Sambir district, during a drinking session, a 62-year-old man beat his 37-year-old acquaintance, who later died from the injuries sustained. This was reported by the Sambir District Police Department and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to preliminary information from law enforcement officers, the incident took place on 6 June at around 23:00 in an outbuilding on a household property. While consuming alcoholic beverages, a sudden conflict arose between the 62-year-old owner of the premises and his 37-year-old guest from the Sambir district. During the quarrel, the older man struck the younger one several times in the head with his fists, after which the victim fell and lost consciousness.

Medics were called to the scene, but despite the assistance provided, the 37-year-old man died from his bodily injuries.

To establish the circumstances of the crime, officers from the criminal police, investigators and staff from other units of Police Station No.1 of the Sambir District Police Department were involved. The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the man that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily harm). The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
