In Sambir district, an indictment has been sent to court against a 53-year-old man accused of growing cannabis, storing narcotic drugs and unlawfully possessing a firearm. This was reported by the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, the accused was growing cannabis in one of the villages of Sambir district where he lived. In his yard near a church he planted 38 plants, and another 14 plants in shrubbery on the outskirts of the village.
During a search of the man’s house, law enforcement officers found packaged cannabis with a total weight of almost 1.6 kg and cannabis resin weighing about 1 g, which, according to the investigation, he had produced himself from the plants he grew.
In addition, a German-made pistol, model “HK SFP 9”, and 14 cartridges for it were found in the dwelling; these were being kept without the permit required by law. According to expert assessments, the firearm and ammunition were in working order.
The man is charged with unlawful storage of a firearm and ammunition without a permit, unlawful acquisition and storage of narcotic drugs both with intent to supply and without such intent, as well as unlawful sowing and cultivation of more than 50 cannabis plants (Part 1 of Article 263, Part 1 of Article 307, Part 1 of Article 309, Part 2 of Article 310 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the Investigation Unit of Police Department No. 1 of the Sambir District Police Division of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
Under the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proved in the manner prescribed by law and confirmed by a guilty verdict of a court.
