In Sambir district, an indictment has been submitted to court against a 38-year-old resident accused of the premeditated murder of his 79-year-old mother in Staryi Sambir. This was reported by the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, the incident took place in May this year in one of the private houses in Staryi Sambir. A domestic conflict arose between the man and his 79-year-old mother, during which, according to the investigation, the cause of the quarrel was allegedly that the woman had thrown kittens out of the kitchen into the yard.
During the conflict, the accused, according to the investigation, brutally beat his mother, delivering numerous blows with his hands and feet. As a result, the victim sustained multiple rib fractures, internal organ damage and numerous haemorrhages and died at the scene.
After the incident, the man phoned a neighbour and reported what he had done. The neighbour, who was not an eyewitness, immediately called the emergency medical service and the police. Law enforcement officers detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He is charged with premeditated murder under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The accused is currently in custody. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of Investigation Unit No. 1 of the Sambir District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
