In the Lviv region, police detained a driver who, while under the influence of alcohol, caused a traffic accident, resulting in injuries to a passenger.
The road traffic accident occurred on December 26, around 22:40, in the village of Stary Dbrotyv, Sheptytskyi district. According to preliminary findings, the driver of a VAZ 21074, a 21-year-old local resident, lost control and crashed into a fence. As a result of the accident, a passenger in the vehicle, a 24-year-old resident of one of the villages in Sheptytskyi district, sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
It was determined that the driver was operating the vehicle in a state of alcohol intoxication. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The investigators of Police Department No. 1 of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 286-1 (“Violation of traffic safety rules or transport operation by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction includes a penalty of up to three years of imprisonment with a three to five-year license suspension.
